Our take

By Victor Gil Vazquez · Reviewed 2026-08-21

$395 for lounge access and an annual travel credit. Half the price of Chase Sapphire Reserve, and the same instruction applies: price the credits before you apply.

The fee, priced against the alternative

$395 makes this the second most expensive card in this catalog, behind Chase Sapphire Reserve at $795. The $400 gap between them is the frame for the whole decision: both are premium travel cards built around credits, lounge access and elevated earning, and one costs half as much.

The card carries an annual travel credit and Priority Pass lounge access. Our catalog verifies the fee and the earning structure, not the credit amounts, so the arithmetic has to be done from Capital One's own disclosure. The rule is the same as with any premium card: write down the credits you will actually use, total them, and compare to $395. If the total needs optimism to clear the fee, it doesn't clear the fee.

The earning structure is the reassuring part

Venture X earns unlimited miles on every purchase with elevated rates on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Travel. That flat structure is the same one that makes Venture easy to evaluate, and it means the card doesn't quietly earn 1x on most of your spending the way several premium cards in this catalog do.

APR is 19.49% to 28.49%, identical to Venture's. A $395 card carrying a balance at 28.49% is an expensive mistake compounding on itself, which is worth saying plainly on a card sold on travel benefits.

The base rate is the same one four cards here give you free

Outside the Capital One Travel portal this card earns 2x on everything. Citi Double Cash, Wells Fargo Active Cash, PNC Cash Unlimited and TD Double Up all pay 2% on everything with no annual fee at all. On ordinary spending, then, the $395 buys you nothing the free cards do not already give.

That is not a criticism so much as a clarification of what the fee is for. It buys the 10x inside the portal, lounge access and an annual travel credit — the last two being benefits this catalog does not verify. Everything outside those is a 2x you could have for nothing.

Where $395 sits, and what has to be true

It is the second-highest fee here, between the $95 group and Chase Sapphire Reserve's $795. The 10x portal rate ties with Citi Strata Premier for the highest in this catalog, but Strata Premier charges $95 for its 10x — so on the portal multiple alone, the cheaper card matches this one.

The difference has to come from the travel credit and the lounge access, and the honest position of this page is that we have not verified either. If your travel is frequent enough that a credit and a lounge are worth $300 a year over the Strata Premier, the card makes sense. If they are not, the same portal rate is available four hundred dollars cheaper.

What stands out

  • Unlimited miles on every purchase, not 1x outside bonus categories.
  • Priority Pass lounge access and an annual travel credit.
  • $395 is half the fee of the only more expensive card in this catalog.
  • Same APR range as the $95 Venture — the higher fee buys benefits, not a worse rate.

What to watch

  • $395 a year, the second-highest fee in this catalog.
  • The credit amounts that justify the fee aren't verified in our data. Price them yourself first.
  • Elevated hotel and car rates are tied to Capital One Travel.
  • APR to 28.49% — a carried balance on a $395 card compounds two mistakes at once.
Best for
A frequent traveler who will use lounge access and the full travel credit, and can total both to more than $395.
Look elsewhere if
You travel occasionally — the $95 Venture earns 2x on everything with no credits to remember.
